Lehigh Senior High School opened in the fall of 1994. The Lehigh Senior High School Golden Lightning Marching Band and Color Guard is under the direction of Mr. Jay D. Parales. We are currently at 110 members strong.

In 1995 the LSHS Band and Color Guard received "Superior" ratings at the Pride of Florida Marching Competition and also obtain the prestigious "Lee County Cup". The band received "Superior" ratings at the Crown Jewel Marching Competition which qualified us for the finals. We also received straight "Superior" ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Associations District Marching Evaluation.

We were honored in March of 1996 to march in Disney's Magic Kingdom, Main St. Parade. We also received an invitation to march in the New Year's Day Peach Bowl Parade. What an honor for a second year band!!

During indoor guard of 96, our Color Guard, known as "Electric" placed first at the Southwest Florida Indoor Guard Association Championship in the novice category.

A great beginning to our1996-97 season, we received straight "Superior" ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association District Marching Evaluation, first runner-up Grand Champions, with "Superior" ratings at the Pride of Florida Marching Competition and again "Superior" ratings at the Crown Jewel Marching Competition and qualified for the finals.

It is the philosophy of the Music Department at Lehigh Senior High School to work toward providing well-rounded, balanced music education for those students who demonstrate the desire, ability and proper artistic attitude to be members of the band. Music is part of the total academic program at LSHS. Band opens the door to a life time musical pleasure. The persons who can play an instrument well has a passport to many social and church related activities. For many students, music is an opportunity for a career or scholarship to college. Most students who earn college scholarships are not music majors. It is not necessary to major in music to receive a music scholarship. Band can provide cherished memories that will last forever.

It is the goal of LSHS band to one day march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, many major bowls and perform in Europe. This will give our students the opportunity to experience many new things that will become cherished memories for the rest of their lives.

All of these dreams can come true but not without help. LSHS is a struggling new school with a long road ahead. Located within a prominently retired community, it has become very difficult to raise the funds needed to support a band of this size. We have had many, many fund-raisers and have made some success. We would welcome any ideas suggestions and donations.

One of our fund-raisers is a cookbook created by the band parents. This cookbook contains 88 pages of recipes, from grandma's to area chefs from some very fine restaurants in the Southwest Florida area. Along with each recipe is a choice of wine, chosen by our local wine experts. You may use the form below to order your cookbook.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us. If you have any comments please mail them to our address below to the attention to either the Band Parent Association or to Mr. Jay D. Parales, Band Director. You may also wish to E-Mail your suggestions, opinion, etc. to NLabbe8128@aol.com
